Prevention and Treatment of Pharyngitis
Pharyngitis refers to conditions of the throat area. The patient usually feels throat pain, dryness, itching, foreign-body sensation, oppression, sputum-that-won't-clear, cough.
Throat conditions begin with the baby's first cry. Crying strongly stimulates the throat and disturbs its function. As time goes on — vomiting, loud shouting, eating very cold or very hot — further stimulate the throat, deepening the abnormality. As the throat's function approaches its physiological limit, the threshold of disease is reached. The throat then grows highly sensitive to outside cold-and-hot change; a cold can trigger cough; over-use of the throat can bring disease. So almost everyone has some throat trouble — only the severity at onset differs. People have immune and self-repair function; under suitable conditions, throat discomfort is absent — but that does not mean the throat is normal. Constitution and age vary; pharyngitis symptoms vary; recovery time varies. Some feel throat discomfort with the first sign of cold; with cold treated, the throat symptoms persist for long — this is chronic pharyngitis.
Pharyngitis belongs to functional disease. TCM tuina (massage), with hands acting directly on the affected area, can gradually bring physiological function back within range. Doctor and patient must cooperate closely. The throat is self-regulable — periodic professional treatment combined with steady self-treatment gives best results.
Pingxintang's tuina practitioner Wang Zhiqiang has rich clinical experience in pharyngitis. He sees patients on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons, and teaches self-treatment techniques during the session. Bookings: 65235566.
