Drawing on Chinese Medicine's Strength to Root-Cure Asthma

Asthma rises in autumn. The line "internal medicine cannot cure asthma" has become the patient's heart-stone; not a few doctors have told asthma patients, "this cannot get well — take some medicine, an injection, an IV, ease the symptoms — but cure is impossible." The patient hears it like a thunderclap. By the experience of Professor Dong Guoli of Tianjin — over half a century treating this disease, under the guidance of our traditional medicine — this disease can be completely cured. Over 10,000 cases (roughly 600,000 patient-visits), with the methods vent the lung and dispel evil combined with support right and firm the root, have given fine results.

TCM theory: asthma is usually triggered by a cold. Outer evil striking the lung must first land on the surface. If we do not use vent-the-lung surface-releasing methods (pungent-warm or pungent-cool) to treat it, the outer evil drives steadily inward, injuring lung qi (damaging the cilial epithelium of the bronchial wall) and disturbing the qi-mechanism — until the lung-qi cannot descend to the kidney, and the kidney cannot grasp the lung qi from above. So the initial cold-symptoms (aversion to cold, runny nose, headache, cough-fever) — normal protective reactions of the lung-defense surface pattern — turn into the asthma-dominant lung-spleen-kidney inner pattern: hypersensitivity reaction, allergic reaction — a function-hyperactive protective reaction. Asthma forms.

To cure asthma, then, we must restore the body's disease-resistance and bronchial function. Restoration cannot rely on bronchodilators that briefly stop the wheeze; long-term dilation kills bronchial elasticity, and the bronchi's clearance and defense functions further weaken; sputum cannot clear; the bronchi attempt clearance and instead spasm — wheezing deepens. To root-cure asthma, draw on TCM's strength: by traditional methods, restore the body's defense capacity against natural microbes and viruses, restore disease-resistance — in TCM language, restore the lung-defense surface pattern. Use vent-the-lung, dispel-evil combined with grasp the kidney qi to draw the pathogenesis — which has fallen into lung-spleen-kidney — back out toward the surface. After a course of treatment, when the patient next catches cold, the lung-defense surface pattern re-appears with chills, fever, headache, runny nose; a small dose of surface-releasing herbs is enough; the lung-spleen-kidney inner pattern asthma no longer appears.

One 6-year-old boy had asthma for over 5 years; each attack with hunched shoulders and tucked abdomen, heavy sweating, requiring large doses of aminophylline, Mequash, terbutaline, Anchuan, Ventolin aerosols, and high doses of steroids before relief. On exam: both lungs full of wheezing, pigeon-chested. Plan: stop all prior drugs, apply traditional methods, restore the early-symptom course — even allowing heavy sputum and high fever — and over nine months he was cured. Four years off medicine since, no further attacks. A 3-year-old boy with 2-year asthma — about 30,000 RMB spent, countless drugs, no result. Under this plan, clearing residual evil, one prescription of 7 doses (just over 100 RMB) cured him.

A reminder: when you catch cold, do not take it lightly; do not rush to suppress fever. Quick, heavy drugs may show fast effect, but the inner evil is not cleared; eventually disease moves from skin into the couli, becoming yet harder to treat.

We trust that this science — Chinese medicine — will yield rich fruit on stubborn diseases like asthma.
