Inherit the Experience of Named Senior TCM Physicians and Strengthen TCM Specialty Construction
Excerpts from She Jing's Address at the Opening Ceremony of the National Advanced Workshop on Clinical Experience of Named Senior TCM Physicians
On October 29, the opening ceremony of the National Advanced Workshop on Clinical Experience of Named Senior TCM Physicians, together with the launch of the Specialty and Specialized-Disease TCM Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Series, was held at the Ersha Island branch of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (Guangdong Provincial TCM Hospital). She Jing, Vice Minister of Health and Director of the State Administration of TCM, and Li Lanfang, Vice Governor of Guangdong, attended and spoke. Vice Minister She Jing said: Guangdong's organization of this national workshop provides us a good model and line of thought for inheriting the precious experience of senior TCM physicians.
She Jing noted that as the disease spectrum changes and concepts of health are renewed, people demand a higher health standard and quality of life; at the same time, the steady advance of science and the constant renewal of modern medical diagnostic and therapeutic technology make the task of lifting TCM's academic and technical level all the more urgent. With some developed countries, relying on strong economic strength, intensifying TCM research and development, China's leading international position in TCM scholarship and technology faces severe challenge. At home, as health-insurance reform and reform of the medical-and-health system deepen, TCM medical institutions face fiercer competition. Opportunity and challenge thus stand together for Chinese medicine. As TCM workers we feel deeply the weight of the duty on our shoulders. TCM's development urgently needs the answer to a string of problems, and the key is whether we can train a team that fully inherits the marrow of the ancestral medicine and at the same time commands modern scientific knowledge.
Holding the National Advanced Workshop on Clinical Experience of Named Senior TCM Physicians was proposed by Professor Deng Tietao of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Professor Ren Jixue of Changchun College of Chinese Medicine, and met with active response from eight other senior named TCM physicians of the nation: Zhang Xuewen, Zhu Liangchun, Zhang Qi, Yan Dexin, Ji Liangchen, Lu Zhizheng, Lu Guangshen, and Jiao Shude.
